Opening Event﹕2023.8.20 Friday 1 ﹣ 8pm
WWF's 11th friend is Jaden Cho. As the director of JADEN CHO and UMBER POSTPAST, he creates clothing that reflects his own aesthetic and romance. Starting with the fabrics that are the prototypes of his clothes, he delicately and meticulously crafts them, and in this exhibition, he shows fabric installations. Both the third and fourth floors will be filled with JADEN CHO's signature quilted fabrics.
CUT BY HANDS, as the exhibition’s title, the signature quilt fabrics, each one cut by hand, are like a well-tended garden. Pick favorite flowers, tidy up the leaves and trim them into an orderly shape. Gardening is about time and careful pruning. It's not about filling the space with a lot of plants, it's about the white space. It is also with Jaden Cho's fabrics.
The yellow tulips, pink cosmos, dark forget-me-nots and foliage is transformed into a neat yet colorful garden by the gardener's careful scissors. As the sunlight streams through the fiber-pieced garden, the shadows create another pattern. Based on a floral motif, which the artist considers the absolute standard of beauty, the fabrics are not just flat woven cloths. They go beyond wrapping the human body to catch the light and become walls that divide the space. The romantic space created by his fabrics, suggests a new role for fabric. His garden, which took dozens of scissors and many days to complete, is powerful in its own right.
