Todam
Artist

Todam @to__dam, the third friend with WWF, sculpts new images by incorporating a sense of recollection. He ability to make a familiar object feel unfamiliar is due to those images bring inaccurate in his memory. His work dabbles in familiarity and awkwardness which stimulates each individual to revisit their childhood memories. At first glance, his work seems roughly made, but it actually undergoes thorough sketches and many trials. The meticulous planning of an imperfect form compells viewers to replace the original figure they previously had a connection with.

Todam reconstructs fragments of memory to create new afterimages. Through his work, these fragments emerge in forms that are both vivid and ambiguous—distorted yet strangely familiar. By reducing and transforming the original subjects down to their essential characters, the images may appear incomplete, but in fact, they draw closer to the fully realized images of the unconscious. With simple yet sensory visuals, the artist leaves room for interpretation, inviting viewers to project their own schemas onto the work.

This exhibition presents the culmination of two and a half years of preparation. For the first time, Todam showcases over 50 new two-dimensional works, expanding from his previous object-based practice. These pieces, dissolved from three-dimensional objects into flat surfaces, retain Todam’s delicate sensibility while becoming more direct and immediate. Each piece is rendered by pressing ink directly onto paper, resulting in dense layers of pigment that feel as if the original object has melted into the page. The vivid colors, strong contrasts, and accidental traces left by bleeding ink lend the works a sense of ironic tension. Figures—humans, animals, and more—depicted in Todam’s distinctive style appear at once familiar and strange, endearing yet slightly unsettling.

Alongside the flat works, Todam presents handmade frames. These sculptural frames envelop the two-dimensional works, enhancing them with his keen spatial sense and acting as a device that bridges flatness and volume. Existing between painting and object, these works form a genre unique to Todam—both surface and structure.

The exhibition also features one large-scale sculpture and four new edition pieces. The question mark Todam leaves—"?"—awaits each viewer’s imagination, hoping to transform into their own exclamation—"!".

To celebrate the exhibition, we've prepared a capsule toy machine where you can get a hat & bubble set inspired by the artwork, along with a variety of keyrings. We look forward to your visit and interest!

On the third floor, there are hundreds of sketches for a single sculpture that appears to be "aimlessly made". The sketches displays a scenery that has never been revealed before. The series of artwork, which only exists to compliment each other, are a visual representation of the artist's subconciousness. This gives viewers an opportunity to dive into their own subconciousness and evaluate the artwork. The fourth floor of this exhibition showcases 20 pieces of artwork that the artist has spent the last two and a half years working on.
