CONCRETE DREAMS
2024.9.4 - 9.22, Tue - Sat, 12:00 - 6:00
Opening Reception: 2024. 9. 7 (Sat) 12:00 - 8:00
WWF's new chapter begins with Thibaud Herem, an artist who draws his subjects with lines as thin as 0.1 millimeters. A keen observer and collector, he captures subjects in dense detail with a special love for architecture and nature. The exhibition will showcase his new Utopia series under the title "Concrete Dreams." In addition, there will be a tea ceremony session on the first floor of the exhibition, accompanied by his paintings of Whtea, a teahouse in Bukchon.
Whtea, which means 'drinking tea under the moon', is a space that shares tea culture with carefully selected teas by Joo Eunjae. It is a space where you can feel the accumulation of time through tea, antiques, teacups, and other items that have been collected. Savoring decades-old boicha brewed at the right temperature in a selected tea pot is similar to Thibaud’s paintings. It is the reason why they make the show together.
On the second floor, the artist presents "Utopia," a series of imaginary architectures based on Brutalism. The series, which was first shown at Art Busan 2024, is a monochromatic and minimalist work. As the title of the exhibition, he has created his own buildings by adding his imagination to the Brutalist style. Although they look simple at first glance, each line and surface reveals his sophisticated expression. The frames, which are made to follow the shape of the building, support the works as if they were part of the architecture. His utopias will be exhibited alongside paintings of plants with life, and products from his collaboration with AECA White will be on display in the exhibition.
