LOLA JAMES HARPER × WWF ART GALLERY, SEOUL KEEP SOME ROOM FOR DREAMS AN IMMERSIVE JOURNEY THROUGH SCENTS, SONGS, PHOTOGRAPHY, FILM & BOOKS Seoul, October 2026 This October, WWF Art Gallery in Seoul welcomes Lola James Harper and the Mekdachi family, Rami, Céline, Lili and Noé, for a unique immersive art happening, bringing together twenty years of family travel, photography, music, film, fragrance and books. For one week, the gallery becomes a journey through the world of Lola James Harper, where images can be smelled, scents can be heard, music can be seen, and books become places to enter. Rather than a traditional exhibition, the project is conceived as a complete sensory experience: four rooms, four colors, four fragrances, four musical atmospheres and four photographic universes. Visitors are invited to leave the outside world behind and move from one colored space to another, discovering the stories, places and emotions behind the latest photobooks created by the Mekdachi family. Summer Balade, Watching Music, Where the Sun Keeps Shining, HoopTime are part of the new international photobook collection published by Abrams Books in the United States and UK and Éditions La Martinière in France. A FAMILY JOURNEY, 20 YEARS IN THE MAKING The experience begins in a small introductory screening room, where visitors can discover WITH, the first feature film by Rami Mekdachi. Awarded for its music, direction and imagery, WITH takes viewers on a journey through twenty years of travel by the Mekdachi family — road trips, encounters, landscapes, music, photography, fragrances and films created around the world. It is an intimate invitation into the family’s creative journey and into the places that have inspired the images, songs, books and scents presented throughout the exhibition. From the film, visitors then enter the heart of the exhibition: four rooms, four colors, four worlds.
The entrance turns entirely leather orange. A basketball hoop hangs on the wall, immediately changing the atmosphere and bringing the energy of the street into the gallery. This is an avant-première of Hoop Time, the forthcoming photobook dedicated to street basketball around the world, scheduled for publication in 2027 by Abrams Books and Éditions La Martinière. Nine photographs from the forthcoming book are presented for the first time, accompanied by a soul composition by Lola James Harper and the fragrance Fun Fair, inspired by fig tree. There is no book yet to purchase in this room: Hoop Time remains a glimpse into what is to come. Instead, visitors encounter the project through its images, sound, fragrance and the physical presence of the basketball hoop.
The first room is entirely immersed in a soft blue-green. The atmosphere begins with the fragrance Promenade in Vincennes Wood, a fresh composition of lily and green grass by Lola James Harper. A folk song composed by Lola James Harper plays throughout the space, creating the soundtrack to a road trip. On the walls, visitors discover photographs by Lili Mekdachi, selected from Summer Balade, the new photobook exploring the freedom, intimacy and poetry of road trips. At the center of the room, copies of Summer Balade invite visitors to continue the journey through the book itself.
The journey continues into a completely sunny yellow room. The space is filled with the warm, tropical atmosphere of Surf Shop, the Lola James Harper fragrance built around tuberose, wax and monoi. A joyful pop song composed by Lola James Harper accompanies a collection of intensely colorful, sun-filled photographs by Lili and Rami Mekdachi. The images are extracted from Where the Sun Keeps Shining photo-Book, a celebration of summer, light, friendship and the endless feeling of being on the road. At the center of the room, the yellow photobook becomes part of the installation itself.
The third space is a flashy, intense pink, creating an entirely different energy. A rock composition by Lola James Harper fills the room while the fragrance Vinyl Store brings the atmosphere of a record shop and the warm, woody world surrounding music. The walls display black-and-white photographs by Lili and Rami Mekdachi, taken from Watching Music, a photographic journey into music, movement, places and encounters. At the center, a collection of the pink photobook becomes the focal point of the installation.
